It is interesting to note, that Joseph was named after Captain Joseph Barton, of the Jersey Volunteers, whose regiment his great grandfather, James Everingham U.E.L., fought under in the Revolutionary War.

Joseph was born deaf and dumb according to the 1861 and 1871 census.

Joseph lived in Moraviatown, the Indian Reservation, at lot 21, Conc 10 of Orford Twsp., in Kent County, abutting his parents home farm, which was off the Reservation.
