Bessie SHORT, 87, of Carson City, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 14, 1999, at Metron of Greenville. She was born Sept. 21, 1912, in Linden, Iowa, the daughter of Clyde V. and Lelia Marlene BURGGREN. She married Ira O. SHORT on Aug. 26, 1929, in DesMoines, Iowa. She moved to the Lansing area from Iowa in 1929, and then moved to Crystal in 1948. She worked for Ore-Ida in the packaging and bookkeeping departments from 1963 until her retirement in 1972. She was a life member of the Order of Eastern Star, Rebekahs and the VFW Women's Auxiliary of Sheridan. She is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, LaVera Jeane NEIL of Lansing, Ruby L. BERKIMER of Crystal, Lelia B. and Thomas MANN of Grand Rapids; two sons and daughters-in-law, Vernon C. and Elizabeth SHORT of Sheridan, James I. and Marlene SHORT of Stanton; 17 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Francis and Haute PIKE of Holt, Melvin and Jane PIKE of East Lansing, Pearl and Jean PIKE of Texas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ira; two brothers, Virgil BURGGREN and John PIKE; and three grandchildren, Stanley SHORT, Jimmie RESPONDEK and Beth Ann MANN.
