1906 Bridgeton Pioneer News, Oct 25, 1906.. "Mrs. David Everingham, the wife of a young man of North Bridgeton, Saturday night made a desperate attempt to take her life. In the early evening she sent a little girl to Channel's grocery and procured a bottle of laudanum. The bottle Mrs. Everingham took with her to her room and locked the door. She was later missed and it was found that she had locked herself in her room. Constable Robert Bath was called, and burst in the door. Mrs. Everingham was discovered unconscious and the empty bottle by her side indicated she had taken the entire contents. Unremitting efforts prevailed, and after a time Mrs. Everingham was out of danger. When she recovered her faculties she expressed no regret that had attempted suicide, and said she was sorry that she had not succeeded."
