Research of Kevin Everingham of MI, updated 2023;
1877 Hand written marriage notes (I've seen this document) by Rev. G.D. Collins Minister of the Gospel; "Nov 28, 1877 George J. Johnston to Mary E. Evernham, both of Trenton, New Jersey."
1880 US CENSUS Chambersburg, Mercer County, NJ... "#129, George J. Johnston 25, works in Iron Mill,.. Mary E. Johnston 22, wife."
1924 Greenwood Cemetery, Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ.. "Margaret Gertrude Stults Evernham, d.2 Feb 1924.
1924 Obituary Trenton Evening Times; "Mrs. Margaret Gertrude Evernham 82 died Feb 3, 1924 at Trenton, NJ.. husband James H. Evernham... this lists her children as; Mrs. Mary Johnston, Mrs. Jonathan Watt, Mr. Horatio Evernham & Hartson Evernham." This information brings James and his children together with those born to Margaret and those born before being married to her. This is important evidence that James was previously married When Margaret married James, Horatio was 12, Mary was about 9, Hart was 4 years old.
NOTE There is a Mary E. Johnston buried at East Ridgelawn cemetery, Clifton, Passaic, NJ with husband George (1854-1927) although her date of birth is listed as 1872 which seems too far off to be the right couple. However a better match comes from the Riverview cemetery, Mercer county, NJ... "George J. Johnston (1855-1911) and wife (on same stone) Mary E. Johnston (1858-1937) are buried in Section K." In this same cemetery is; Aaron J. Evernham (d.1919) & Mary Emma Evernham (d.1910)., Pvt. Gilbert M. Everham (civil war soldier d.1920), George Everingham (1847-1922), Hartson Everingham (1864-1940), Horatio C. Everingham (1856-1926), Emma Mary (1862-1925) Some of which are definite relatives of Mary. Emma C. Stults (1874-1927), John R. Stults (1832-1872) and Sarah B. Stults (1831-1920) are buried here. There are at least 55 Johnston's burried here also.
