not certain this is the same family but it fits;
1874 The Wheeling Intelligencer, West VA, Monday, Oct 26, 1874.. same story in many national newspapers; "Terrible Boiler Explosion, Detroit, Oct 24, - Yesterday at 1:30 pm, the boilers of the mill and salt works belinging to W.H.Cooper & Co., New River exploded. Five men, two named Culhane, Alex Miller, John Talbot and Henry Getty, with his little son named George Getty, aged about eleven years were standing in the room at the time. The boy was so badly scalded that he died about eighteen hours after the explosion. Miller and Getty, at latest accounts were improving." although,... the New River Cemetery shows that George Getty (b.1862 d.1872) I have found no death record to show if this date is correct, but Henry's biography does say that George died 24 Oct. 1872,..Notice this article says that the explosion happened Oct.24th, 1874... I have found several copies of this story in New York and Pennsylvania Newspapers and all are 1874. I believe that it is likely that the death was recorded later and they confused the year, possibly with the year of Alice's birth.
