originally we believed that Hannah married a "John" Negus.... additional findings show that John and Hannah Negus may have had a son EDWIN who married a Hannah Efingham.... I also found a record of a John E. Negus who died in Iowa in 1917 and was the son of Edwin Negus and Hannah Elvingham.

Research of Kevin Everingham of MI, 2005
the same people?
In 1810, 1820 and 1840 CENSUS data, there was a "John NEGUS" living in Fabius, Onondaga, New York. The area is correct for the rest of Hannah's famly but I have no idea if this is the correct John Negus.

In 1850 there was a John Negus in Wayne county New York which is 50 miles from Syracuse. --- The 1850 Census of Marion, Wayne, NY #1446... John Negus 56, b.Rd.Island, occ: Teamster,.. Hannah Negus 49, b.NY,.. John Negus Jr. 24, b.NY, occ: Com Lab,.. Fitzgerald Negus 22, b.NY, occ: Mason.. Wm Negus 14, b.NY. IF the 1850 Census were the correct, Hannah's date of birth is estimated close to 1801, and that John was noted born in Rhode Island. This may also be a completely different John and Hannah, but has been the only instance of (John & Hannah Negus) that I've found in Census data. That same Hannah Negus is living in Marion, Wayne, NY in 1860 with; Artemus Love 27, Jane Love 24,.. Henry M. Love 2,.. Clariss Love 10,.. Fitjerald Negus 33,.. Mary Negus 28,.. Meritt W. Negus 5,.. John P. Negus 2,.. George Negus 0,.. Hannah Negus 59,.. William C. Negus 24. ... This group should probably be studied more although I think it is likely the wrong group, because that Hannah is listed with that John in the Marion cemetery, Wayne, NY... (John Negus 1793-1851), Hannah, his wife 1801-1870 all listed on one stone.

cemetery - There is a Hannah Negus (b.1805 d.1828) buried at Delphi Falls Baptist Church cemetery, Onondaga, NY However, this looks like a perfect match but Negus family researchers list this Hannah as the daughter of Isaac Negus & Priscilla Oxx... I don't find Edwin anywhere but I do believe I find Edwins parents John & Hannah (see NEGUS research)

other possibilities:

.... AND.... at Beach Cemetery, Onondga, NY... there is a John and Hannah Negus listed together... The stone shows; "Hannah, wife of John Negus, died Jan 31, 1853, age 66." this looks perfect except this Hannah must have been born about 1787!

because of the 1860 Census, I also belive that Hannah could have had another sister who married into the POTTER family. This could alternatively be a relative of the NEGUS family... If Polly Potter was an Everingham, she was born about 1802 NY. Unfortunately, I can't find this couple in other records to check, and both names given in the 1860 census could be shortened or middle names... see CENSUS data below;
1860 CENSUS Northville, LaSalle, IL (Page 78, house #567)... "Hart Potter 59, b.NY,.. Polly Potter 58, b.NY,.. John Potter 18, b.NY,.. George Potter 13, b.NY,.. John Lamahr 19, b.Prussia,.. Hannah Negus 49, b.NY,.. John Negus 17, b.NY,.. George Negus 8, b.NY." 1860 it appears that Elisa A. Negus, age 13, b.NY was living with Platt & Eilzabeth Potter & family also at Northville, LaSalle, Illinois. (are the Potters' relatives?)

update 2014... Searching for the Potters, I found a "Hart (1801-1882) and Polly Everingham Potter (1802-1877) buried at Millington Newark Cemetery, Millington, Kendall Co. Illinois... also buried here is their son; Platt Potter (1832-1908).
see POTTER page.
