2John de Birkin's mother Matilda was known as the Lady of Laxton, being born at Laxton, Nottinghamshire, England. Since John's son died in 1231, this is thought to be the point at which Laxton Castle entered the Everingham family in 1231, or in 1230 when Isabel married Robert Everingham. Matilda's grandfather was Baron de CAUZ, Lord of Laxton.
